‘Bot’ means without. The motto serves as a warning that one should beware when the wildcat’s claws are ‘without a glove’ ie unsheathed (although I prefer to translate it as: Do not attack the cat without wearing a glove meaning you should be well shielded from the cat's claws!) It serves as a metaphorical warning to others that they should think twice before interfering with Macpherson business.
