Fifty years ago, when I was facing divorce, all I could see was a big black hole in front of me and while I was not happy with the past, I feared the future. It took courage to take that first step into that new world but what wonderful rewards I have enjoyed since then. I discovered there IS life after divorce.
If you are facing an uncertain future and cannot bear to close the door to the past, trying to hang on to what seem to be the broken remnants of the past, you are letting time pass you by. While you stay you are in a limbo. Neither here nor there. The past has gone - you only have the future and with this in mind I wrote these words especially for someone I know who is going through this right now..
The time has come to say goodbye.
Goodbye to what was,
Goodbye to the familiar,
And goodbye to what will never be again.
All that was once so comfortable
Gradually fades into the past,
As one phase of your life ends
And you face moving on.
It's so cosy here in this little room,
Barricaded in with boxes and furniture.
It takes courage
To close the door on the past.
All you see of the future
Is a big black hole ....
An unfamiliar blank page ....
An empty nothingness stares back at you.
It's a measure of your courage
Facing that final goodbye to the familiar.
Pack up and take one last look into the past,
Close the door and step into your new life.
As long as you stay
Your empty life is passing by,
Time you can never steal back,
As you wait and suffer.
The past is gone
A new world waits for you.
Step forward into your future,
And your fresh new life. Move on.
