So it’s OK, on the stands and football pitch, to use the ‘f’ word and the ‘c’ word but not the ‘b’ word , is it?
It doesn't seem right that the great majority of people, who would never think of using such vile words, are subjected to hearing them regularly from those one wouldn't want living next door.
I cannot remember a time when I didn't know it was racist to use certain words when referring to those of another colour, just as I knew it was wrong to discriminate against those of a different religion. Neither could I understand why it bothered anyone that there were homosexuals in our community.
But what about the ‘c’word - isn't that an offensive word. You cannot have it both ways - saying you can say whatever you like as long as it's not racist, which is how the argument seems to be going at present. Or that the football field is a man's province, as though this excuses and allows it. Heaven help us if this is an example of 'a man's province' - but unfortunately it is creeping into our society, isn't it? Just think how often you hear the 'f' word used these days. At one time everyone in a pub would have been shocked into silence if anyone said it - now has almost become a part of everyday speech for some - just as long as your mother or grandmother doesn't use it. What hypocrisy!
In recent years laws have been passed which give equality to every UK citizen, regardless of sex, colour and creed but sometimes you wouldn't think so. Isn't it time the great British Public stood up to those who use such offensive words?
Are we really in the 21st century? when we continue to tolerate these three sections of our community having such vile discriminatory words/phrases used against them. Are the rest of the great British Public just going to turn a blind eye and deaf ear, or even worse, join in just to be 'one of the boys'.
If this is freedom of speech, we as a country are lost. I am all for toleration but we are judged by our actions, and if this gradual lowering of standards continues, we are allowing the lowest members of our community, the dross, to drag us down to their level. What sort of country will Great Britain be then? One to be ashamed of, I think.
