Recycling

Internet sales have certainly produced more waste and, consequently, more recycling than ever.
Our household rubbish bin usually only contains one or two small bags of rubbish - mainly from the kitchen - and yes, I know all about recycling some kitchen waste.
However the recycle bin is full of dismantled cardboard boxes (how we curse when we have to cut the large ones down), polystyrene sheets, polystyrene beans (what a pain they are - they go everywhere and stick to everything), bubble wrap, all from items ordered on line. Plus the multitude of catalogues that follow, local advertising pamphlets for various local food establishments advertisements which come through the door (pizzas, indian, chinese etc ), plastic bags, food containers, cereal boxes, bottles - plastic and glass.
Was it always like this before we had internet? If so  how did we manage to get all that into one rubbish bin?
We also have a garden bin which our local council, having persuaded us to use,and are now considering charging us to have emptied. Well I guess we can forgo that charge  by putting the garden waste into the ordinary rubbish bin which goes into landfill anyway.
Remember the good old day of early internet when we were told it would save paper. Well it may, to a certain extent have done that regarding filing paper, but it has certainly increased the amount of household rubbish.
