Corset doesn't happen now!

South Australian Register (Adelaide, SA) Saturday 28 August 1847
LADIES STAYS:
A death from personal vanity occurred a few days ago at Monts, near Caen. The servant of a widow lady went to bed apparently in perfect health, but in the morning was found lifeless. A physician was called in; who, on examining the corpse, declared that her death was caused by her sleeping in her stiff stays to preserve her fine shape. 'The constitution of our females must be excellent,' says a celebrated physician. ' Take an honest ox, encase his sides with corsets, and require labour of him — he would labour indeed, but it would be for breath.'
