Genealogy

I find that many family history researchers do not appear to have any knowledge of English geography and this is quite understandable especially if one lives in the US or Australia for example. Of course even those of us born in the UK know little about the villages and hamlets where our ancestors lived years ago, and this lack of knowledge is understandable however the simple answer is to get a good atlas of Great Britain.
I use one published in about 1968 (by W & A K Johnston & G W Bacon Ltd, Edinburgh & London), a 3 miles to the inch atlas,  first published in 1940. I find this is an essential tool when trying to discover family connections because one can then judge the distances between  villages and hamlets.
