A letter arrives in the post - not a brown window envelope but a hand addressed letter - you look at it and recognise the writing - so-and-so has written with news. You tear open the envelope excitedly and sit down for a moment to read the letter.
What pleasure it gives to see that the person writing it has taken the ime to sit down and compose a letter for you in their own handwriting. Those were the days.
