Strike a light

Ipswich Journal 22 November 1873
Stradbroke: Mrs Smith was aroused between two and three by an unusual bustle downstairs. .. [She] struck a light and aroused her children who began to scream in great alarm, and the disturber was heard groping his way softly upstairs. The intruder was at once recognized and quickly ejected. . . . . It appears the man left the White Hart on Friday night at eleven, adjourned to another place, took more refreshment there, passed his own house, broke into [the next door house by mistake] and unceremoniously divested himself of his boots before proceeding to his neighbours (Mrs Smith’s) bedroom. The affair has caused great excitement in the town.
