The joys of wearing a long skirt in 1867

In 1867 it was the fashion for women's skirts to have fringes and a New York newspaper made a note of the things they had noted attached to the skirts of women passing in the street.
A cooper's shaving.
A dead mouse.
A half consumed cigar.
A wisp of straw with a conglomerate of street filth attached to it.
A bunch of horse hair.
An old 'soger' (a quid of chewing tobacco which had been spat into the street.)
The heel of an old boot.
